Meghan McCain Offers Supportive Words to Joe Biden and His Family After Prostate Cancer Diagnosis: “I Think Moments Like This Should Be About Compassion, Not Politics”

Meghan McCain reached across the aisle to wish former President Joe Biden a speedy recovery amid his recent cancer diagnosis.

After announcing the news on Sunday, Biden received a warm message from McCain on social media. McCain, a former co-host of The View, expressed her empathy towards Biden’s situation, acknowledging the struggles of dealing with cancer. She extended her well wishes for healing, prayers, and strength to President Biden and his family, emphasizing the importance of setting politics aside during such difficult times.

As the daughter of former Republican senator and presidential candidate John McCain, Meghan McCain had been known for her critical views on Biden’s political stance during her time on The View. She openly disagreed with his pro-abortion stance and criticized his administration for what she perceived as a failure to effectively address vaccine hesitancy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a poignant moment on The View back in 2017, McCain and Biden shared a heartfelt connection when discussing their personal experiences with cancer. McCain’s father was diagnosed with the same type of cancer, glioblastoma, that had taken the life of Biden’s son, Beau. Tragically, her father passed away in 2018, further deepening the shared bond between McCain and Biden.

“There is hope… If anyone can make it, it’s your dad,” Biden told her on the show as he clasped her hand.

“The thing that I’ve found was, and Beau insisted on and your dad is gonna insist on, is you gotta maintain hope. There’s hope, you have to have hope,” Biden told her on the show. 

Biden’s office announced the news of his cancer diagnosis Sunday afternoon, reportedly days after learning it themselves.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read, per ABC News.

It continued, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
