Fans hit out at 'classless and pathetic' Spurs 'bullies' who drenched Man United supporters in beer ahead of Europa League final

Tottenham fans received criticism on social media for their behavior before the Europa League final in Bilbao. Videos showed them pouring beer over Manchester United supporters, earning them labels like ‘classless and pathetic.’

The upcoming match between the two Premier League clubs is highly anticipated, with a European trophy and Champions League qualification at stake in northern Spain. The incident added tension to the already significant game.

The actions of some Spurs fans were condemned as ‘bullying’ by observers outside the San Mames stadium. Their behavior was seen as unsportsmanlike and in poor taste, overshadowing the excitement surrounding the game.

In footage shared to social media on Wednesday morning, two Red Devils fans —each wearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic No 7 shirt on their backs — were drenched in beer and taunted on the streets of Bilbao by at least five rival supporters.

Chants of ‘w****r’ were also directed at the Manchester United fans as they walked through the streets ahead of the game.

Fans online were quick to criticise the perpetrators after the video was shared to social media.

‘Classic Spurs this, wouldn’t expect anything else,’ one supporter posted on X.

A second said: ‘Once again, giving Brits a bad name abroad.’

Another chimed in and said: ‘Uncultured and ill-mannered fans from London’.

‘Pathetic’ and ‘classless’ were adjectives also used by online accounts to describe the supporters who threw beer at the Red Devils fans.

‘Bullies. No need,’ a disappointing supporter agreed.

‘Scummy behaviour,’ another said.

One fan replied with a tongue-and-cheek comment about Tottenham’s struggles to win silverware of late.

‘Makes sense considering they don’t know how to handle a cup,’ the Manchester United fan account said.

Manchester United and Spurs have each endured horror campaigns in the Premier League, sitting 16th and 17th respectively heading into the final weekend.

Ahead of the all-or-nothing tie, United and Spurs fans have travelled out to Bilbao in droves in the hope of watching their team lift silverware, with Tottenham having not won a major trophy since 2008.

As reported by Mail Sport on Wednesday morning, locals in Bilbao had already expressed fury and disgust at Tottenham and Manchester United fans acting in a drunken and yobbish manner ahead of the seismic showdown.

With an estimated 80,000 fans from both teams having descended on the city in what has been described as an ‘English invasion’, locals of the Basque city were left gobsmacked at the inebriated state of supporters ahead of kick off that resulted in vandalism, minor scuffles and widespread anti-social behaviour.

Thousands of Tottenham fans gathered along two major avenues in the centre of Bilbao, bringing traffic to a halt as they drank beer and sang late into Tuesday night.

Fans, many of them shirtless, climbed lampposts, destroyed traffic lights and vandalised other property as shocked residents looked on.

Police eventually ordered bars in the area to close at around midnight, earlier than usual, by which time some Tottenham fans had been drinking for almost 12 hours, buying beer that cost five Euros a glass-almost double the normal price.

Izaro Laka, 65 who lives close to where they had gathered said: ‘I’ve never seen people so drunk and behaving so badly.

‘The English are yobs and all they want to do when they come to Spain is drink and cause trouble.

‘I’m used to seeing football fans coming to Bilbao from all over Spain and Europe because the ground is very close to me. But these English fans are like out-of-control animals.’
