R.I.P. Uche Ojeh: ‘Today’ Anchor Sheinelle Jones’ Husband Dead at 45

Uche Ojeh, Today anchor Sheinelle Jones‘ husband of 17 years, has passed away after a battle with brain cancer. He was 45.

Jones’ Today co-anchors gathered together on the show Friday (May 23) to announce the news.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce today the passing of Uche Ojeh, the beloved husband of Sheinelle Jones, one of the hosts of TODAY show. The heartbreaking news was shared by Savannah Guthrie during the show, revealing that Uche had lost his battle with a particularly aggressive type of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.

Savannah Guthrie expressed the immense grief felt for Sheinelle and their three young children, highlighting Uche’s remarkable qualities and the love everyone had for him. She took a moment to honor the memory of the extraordinary man who had been the perfect life partner for Sheinelle.

Jones shared a clip of the touching moment on her social media, writing, “Thank you, for all of your love and support.”

Their love story began at Northwestern University where they first crossed paths as students. Sheinelle, just 18 years old at the time, gave Uche a tour of the campus, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey that led to their marriage in 2007.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Ojeh was a consultant at UAO Consulting for over 10 years.

Jones has been on a leave of absence from the show since January. She announced on social media that she would be “taking time to deal with a family health matter.”

On Today, Craig Melvin praised Ojeh and shared that he had played golf with Ojeh last fall.

“We had a number of conversations about just life in general,” Melvin recounted on the show. “And one thing he always talked about, he talked about those kids. He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline every soccer game. He was at all the concerts and the recitals.”

“He was that guy, and they had such a beautiful love story,” he continued.

Ojeh is survived by Jones and their three children, Kayin, Uche, and Clara.
