A 67-year-old Florida man “tragically took his own life” after he’d already killed one other person and seriously wounded another.
Newell Mock was not responsible for causing any physical harm to two young children, aged 5 and 7, who were asleep in the residence in Gulf County when the incident occurred, according to the Panama City Police.
Investigators said they got multiple calls about shots fired just before midnight Friday and arrived to find Mock on the front porch of the home.
“As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, Mr. Mock tragically took his own life,” police said.
Law enforcement officials went into the house and discovered “a deceased man” and “a woman who had been shot multiple times.” The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The police did not disclose the identities or ages of the individuals affected.
Investigators say Mock was the only shooter in the incident and “there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
They asked witnesses to call them at 850-872-3100, or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 850-785-TIPS.
