'Carnage': Highway to stay closed overnight after five-vehicle smash kills three
A major Victorian highway is expected to remain closed overnight after three people died in a horror five-vehicle collision.

Police think that a small and a large truck were moving eastbound on the Western Highway near Armstrong around 12.30pm. The big truck is said to have crashed into the back of the smaller one, forcing it onto the opposite side of the road.

The smaller truck collided head-on with a Toyota Kluger travelling westbound, before a B-double truck driving behind the Kluger hit both vehicles.

Police remain on scene, where the highway is expected to stay closed in both directions between Ararat and Great Western until tomorrow morning.(Nine)

“Over the last three weeks it’s pretty much been carnage on Victorian roads.

“As a lead up to our King’s Birthday long weekend we just implore drivers to pay attention to the roads.

“If you want to have a drink, don’t drive. Don’t get distracted. Take your time to get to your destination.”

Two people were taken to hospital.

Police remain on scene, where the highway is expected to stay closed in both directions between Ararat and Great Western until tomorrow morning.

Motorists are advised to detour through Moyston using Ararat-Halls Gap Road and Moyston-Great Western Road.

The detour will add an additional 20 kilometres to motorists’ journey, so drivers are urged to allow for plenty of extra time.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage or any other information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.
