A shocked dad watched as armed police officers arrested a bare-chested and bloodied man following the murder of a young woman in Ravensthorpe.
Dad-of-three Asim, 33, was having a cigarette in his front garden in the early hours of Monday when he saw ‘cops everywhere’ and a drone in the sky above him.
Asim heard an officer shout ‘get on the floor now’ as a topless man was handcuffed and arrested on a patch of grassland in Victoria Street, a cul de sac which is a short walk from Dearnley Street where a woman in her 20s was found seriously injured several hours earlier. The woman died a short time later as officers launched a manhunt for a suspect.

Officers with torches were spotted conducting a search of streets and alleyways around Victoria Street, according to locals who were woken by the noise. Residents spotted a drone in the sky and heard the noise of a helicopter.
It is believed the suspect was at large for around five hours. Asim said one officer told him to get inside. “He told me to get inside the house, saying ‘we don’t want you to see all the blood’.”

He said the suspect was arrested by six of seven officers, with armed police among them. He continued: “I heard ‘get on the floor now’. He (the suspect) had no top on. He was covered in blood. He had blood on his chest – it was disgusting.”
“They were telling him to stay down and stay still.”
Asim said he felt ‘traumatised’ by what he saw but took time to congratulate officers for their work.
West Yorkshire Police said they were called to Dearnley Street at 6.43pm on Sunday after a woman in her 20s was found seriously hurt. Despite emergency medical attention at the scene she tragically passed away a short time later.
Police said: “A large scale police operation was mounted in the area, resulting in the arrest of a 35-year-old man on suspicion of murder. “
Detective Chief Superintendent Sarah Jones of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: “A man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the matter which is being treated as a domestic related incident. “
