Six hospitalized after Gatlinburg crash

A spokesperson for the Gatlinburg Police Department said the crash was reported at around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Tennessee Highway Patrol is taking over the investigation into a five-vehicle crash in downtown Gatlinburg.

Six individuals were transported to the hospital as confirmed by the Gatlinburg Police Department. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Critical Incident Response Team commenced the inquiry on Sunday evening to conduct accident reconstruction. The Gatlinburg Police Department stated on Monday morning that the Tennessee Highway Patrol would be taking over the investigation.

According to a spokesperson from the Gatlinburg Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:14 p.m. in the 700 block of Parkway, situated between traffic lights No. 6 and No. 8. The road was reported to have reopened by 10:30 p.m.

Three patients were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in a helicopter, and three others were taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Observations from the Space Needle in downtown Gatlinburg revealed several vehicles halted and damaged on the roadway, with ambulances arriving at the scene. The Tennessee Department of Transportation also noted a complete halt in traffic flow in the vicinity.
