A woman lost six stone after finding out her long-term partner was having an affair with her best friend. Since the painful breakup, Molly Proudfoot has gone from 19.7lb to 13.8lb, and says she is physically and mentally much healthier.

During Covid Molly, aged 30, was working as a pharmacy supervisor and says she found it “really stressful” due to the pressures of the pandemic. She was working seven days a week and found her mental health had taken a downward turn.

After a long day at work, Molly would come home only to find her partner of 11 years was out with her best friend. Due to her work situation Molly began having panic attacks, explaining: “I was using food and alcohol and chocolate to cope with the depression and anxiety.”

Molly had her suspicions, but her ex denied it when she confronted him. She eventually found out the truth – now, two years down the line, Molly’s ex and former best pal are engaged.

“Everyone knew, all my friends and our mutual friends and family, they were trying to tell me in a nice way and I was like ‘No, he wouldn’t do that, they’re just really good friends’,” Molly told Wales Online.

Molly joined a local Slimming World group in 2021 and began changing her diet. Before joining, she’d often skip breakfast or have biscuits with a coffee before getting a baguette or sandwich takeaway for lunch. For her dinner, she would have a takeaway such as pizza or burger.

Now she opts for a hearty, healthy breakfast such as wholemeal toast with poached eggs, mushrooms and bacon. She’ll have pasta for lunch and something like a curry for dinner.

Molly – who works for an animal rescue shelter, as well as a Slimming World consultant – said: “It helped control my fibromyalgia. When I was stressed and overwhelmed every day, I would have waves of crushing pain coming up through my body. I would get home from work and sleep for hours and hours. But now, I don’t get any flare-ups, it is just a miracle.

“I have become more confident and way more out of my shell. I used to hide away in the corner and it made me want to pursue another dream of mine: I now work with rescue animals. I’ve been able to get back in the saddle as I work with rescue horses, because obviously it is weight-dependent. I hadn’t got on a horse for four years before that as I was too heavy.”

Molly holds classes in Aberdulais and Cwmavon on a Tuesday. Morning classes are held at 7.30am, 9am, and 10.30am on a Tuesday at Ynysygerwn Cricket Club and at Cwmavon Rugby Club at 5.30pm.
