UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — An NYPD officer was injured after being struck by a car during a wild situation that unfolded on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Wednesday.

The officer was struck near Park Avenue and East 72nd Street by a wrong-way driver.

Eyewitness News was told the officer was attempting to respond to a robbery around 4:20 p.m. at the nearby Mackage clothing store on East 68th Street and Madison Avenue. That’s where several suspects took off with about $10,000 worth of jackets stolen from the store.

The officer attempted to get in front of the wrong-way driver and was struck by the vehicle.

He was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and broken arm.

It’s not clear if the driver who struck him is in custody.

No arrests have been made in the store robbery.
