The boxing world has been thrown into a whirlwind of confusion and unexpected turns with the rollercoaster saga surrounding a supposed showdown between Ryan Garcia and Rolando Romero.

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently addressed the tangled web of announcements, reactions, and speculations surrounding the bout.

Golden Boy’s reaction to the Garcia vs. Romero controversy

In response to the recent revelation that Romero would be facing Isaac Cruz instead of Garcia, Oscar De La Hoya expressed his perspective on the evolving situation.

“You know, fighters type happy when they’re Tweeting or whatever. I think Rollies fighting Cruz is a great appetizer for what’s to come for Ryan,”De La Hoya remarked.

He sees this unexpected turn as a precursor to potential future matchups, stating, “the winner of that fight can actually get into the sweepstakes, the Ryan sweepstakes.”

De La Hoya also clarified that a fight between Garcia and Romero was never close to being finalized.

“No. Nothing whatsoever. We talked to – Eric [Gomez] talked to Tom Brown I believe, made an offer, never heard back. So that’s the bottom line.”

Ryan Garcia’s surprising revelation

Amid the unexpected turn of events, Ryan Garcia took to social media to express his surprise and disappointment at the news of Romero defending his title against Isaac Cruz.

The social media icon, known for his Instagram popularity, had anticipated a clash with Romero but found himself caught off guard.

Garcia, who had previously announced the matchup with Romero, now finds himself in a situation where the narrative has taken an unexpected twist.

He responded, “Look I was informed the deal [with Romero] was finalizing and it would be announced in the coming days. Obviously, that was a lie. My patience has been tested the last few weeks.”

This isn’t the first time Garcia has found himself in the midst of fight announcements that don’t come to fruition.

Reflecting on the situation, he shared, “I’m trying my best to be as honest and real as I can to you guys. I’ll be looking forward to announcing my next fight. I’m not going to say anything until it’s actually signed and delivered.”

The unexpected turn of events may have spared Garcia from potential backlash, given the controversy surrounding Romero’s legitimacy as a world champion.

As the boxing world awaits Garcia’s next move, the rollercoaster ride continues, leaving fans intrigued and uncertain about what lies ahead.
