One Boulder councilwoman leaves her name off letter condemning Pearl Street Mall attack

Elise, a Boulder resident who preferred not to disclose her last name, is curious about why Boulder Councilwoman Taiysha Adams stands apart as the only member who did not sign the official letter denouncing the recent assault on the Pearl Street Mall on Sunday.

โ€œThe city issues a statement,โ€ Elise โ€” who is Jewish โ€” said. โ€œTaisha Adams, the only city council member who didnโ€™t sign it.โ€

Elise said itโ€™s not the first time sheโ€™s been upset with Adams, who she said has posted โ€œantisemiticโ€ comments on her social media.

When approached by Denver7 to address her decision not to sign the letter, Adams clarified that her choice was not meant to reflect a lack of understanding or backing for the Jewish community. Instead, she believed that the letter lacked a crucial element.

In a portion of her statement, Adams expressed, โ€œThe aspect I perceived missing within the communication was a recognition that, considering his documented remarks, the incident constituted both an act of antisemitism and anti-Zionism. To avert future violence and further incidents within our locality, honesty regarding potential motives behind this atrocious deed is, in my opinion, imperative.โ€

Adams said the other council members did not accept that change, so she didnโ€™t sign it.

Denver7 also reached out to Boulder City Council but have not heard back.
