Trump mentioned that the conversation had a “very positive conclusion” on Thursday, revealing that the two nations are planning to engage in trade discussions with the aim of resolving a deadlock concerning tariffs and the international stock of rare earth minerals.
”Our respective teams will be meeting shortly at a location to be determined,” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
The recent talk between Trump and Xi marked their first communication since January, just three days before the Inauguration Day. During their latest conversation, they revisited trade matters and addressed Trump’s expectations for China to intensify efforts to restrict the influx of the synthetic opioid fentanyl into the United States.
Trump had long expressed optimism about the prospects for a major deal, before his post suggesting Xi was making that difficult.Â
Last week, Trump went further.
“The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US,” Trump posted.Â
“So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!”
