The nominations for the Banff World Media Festival‘s Rockie Awards have been unveiled, with American and British TV producers set for their traditional competition shoot-out in the Canadian Rockies.
American TV shows earned 51 nominations, followed closely by U.K. series with 50 nominations. The Banff Rockies prize-giving will take place during the upcoming 2024 edition of the Banff World Media Festival in Alberta.
The BBC netted a field-leading 22 nominations for its programming across a range of categories. In the scripted categories, American dramas like Gen V, Succession and The Last of Us will square off against the AMC and BBC Studios entry Happy Valley and Australia’s The Newsreader.
The Rockie Awards, which sees U.S. TV shows compete against international fare, also has Canadian producers netting 40 nominations, followed by France with 8 mentions for its series. There’s a U.S.-Brit producers match-up in the best competition series and game show category, with nominations for the American series The Voice and The Masked Singer, which will go up against the U.K.’s Junior Bake Off, The Great British Bake Off and The Great Pottery Throw Down series.
And in the English language comedy competition, there’s entries for U.S. sitcoms like The Wonder Years, The Other Black Girl, Poker Face and Abbott Elementary going up against the Brit chucklers Dreaming Whilst Black, Everyone Else Burns and the U.K.-U.S. collaboration The Great.
And 20th Television Animation shows grabbed all five nominations in the scripted animated series competition: American Dad!, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Futurama and The Great North.
