During the filming of the last installment of the “Mission: Impossible” series, the 62-year-old actor set a Guinness World Records record by completing 16 fiery parachute jumps, according to a report by The Wrap. These jumps took place during the filming of an extraordinary airplane scene for M:I 8.
In this thrilling stunt, the actor leaps from a helicopter with a parachute that is ablaze, creating a visually spectacular moment for the movie. The parachute is shown catching fire rapidly, engulfing it in flames within moments.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes – he is an action hero,” Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, said on Thursday.
The importance of the actor’s dedication to authenticity and willingness to push the limits of traditional leading man roles is highlighted in his achievement. This fearless approach earned him the prestigious Guinness World Records title, acknowledging his remarkable bravery and commitment to his craft.
In the new behind-the-scenes video shared Thursday on YouTube from Paramount Pictures, Cruise explained that, “If this is twisted while it’s burning, I’m going to be spinning and burnt. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds.”
“We’re going to be real smart. I’m not saying be risky. We don’t take risks, obviously,” he added in the clip, before he starts laughing. It was a reference to all the crazy stunts he’s done over the last eight M:I films to entertain audiences, like jumping off a building, scaling the Burj Khalifa, hanging off the side of a plane, etc.
The “Top Gun” star has proven over and over again that he understands what the audience wants and continues to show Hollywood how a movie star should act by avoiding talking politics at movie promotional events and in his films, RedState reported.
