Two tourists who have been missing in Tasmania since Wednesday have been found dead, Police have confirmed.

Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya were expected to depart from Launceston, Tasmania for Brisbane on June 4; however, they did not get on the plane or return the rented car.

Yesterday evening, they were found dead near a crashed vehicle in northeast Tasmania by police officers.

Police Inspector Luke Manhood said police found the car in water off Tebrakunna Road at 5.30pm yesterday.

The pair were found near the car, he said.

“At this early stage it appears they were travelling over a bridge when the vehicle has left the roadway and ended up in the water,” Manhood said.

“This is a tragic outcome, and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.”

“Preliminary inquiries indicate no suspicious incidents, but additional forensic analyses will be conducted as per standard procedure, and a report will be compiled for the coroner.”

Both were aged in their 20s.
