DENVER — A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting an acquaintance in Denver’s Platt Park neighborhood.
In the early hours of Friday, June 6, Denver police were summoned to the scene of a shooting on South Logan Street. Responding officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.
Investigators later identified Victor Rubio Pinerez, 26, as the suspect. Police said Rubio Pinerez and the victim knew each other.
The incident unfolded as Rubio Pinerez provided a ride home to the victim and another individual. Following the drop-off of the third person, an argument ensued between Rubio Pinerez and the victim. The victim expressed a desire to exit the vehicle, but Rubio Pinerez allegedly blocked his attempt to leave.
Amidst the confrontation, Rubio Pinerez brandished a handgun, shooting the victim and hitting him with the weapon. Subsequently, the victim managed to escape from the vehicle while Rubio Pinerez fled the scene.
Rubio Pinerez was arrested Friday afternoon and is being held for investigation of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree and false imprisonment. The Denver District Attorney’s Office will determine the final charges.
