Some politicians you can rely on utterly in one respect: Every time they open their mouths, they embarrass themselves. One such is Senator Dick “Stolen Valor” Blumenthal (D-CT) who recently opened his mouth about President Trump sending Marines in to the Los Angeles area to protect federal property and employees.
Dem CT Sen Blumenthal: I am struck by the use of Marines who have no real apparent training in crowd control or riot action. I think it’s a disservice to the Marines to have them in this situation where they are untrained and ready, unequipped for this kind of mission, and there…

The post concludes:
…and there are local police, as well as state law enforcement, who are much better trained and equipped to do this kind of law enforcement, Marines don’t do policing, they do warrior fighting in combat.
Warrior fighting? As opposed to what, pillow fighting?
This is all pretty special, coming from a guy who lied about his Vietnam service. Marines, as it happens, do have civil disturbance training. Senator Blumenthal doesn’t know that, of course. But it was the way Senator Stolen Valor got defenestrated in the replies that really baked the cake.
One of the best was precise, succinct, and on target:
Oh. The kind of training he got in Vietnam?

Then there’s the “Uh, Marines guard embassies all over the world” angle; guarding federal buildings is precisely what the Marines are doing in Los Angeles.
The marines are trained to protect federal buildings…namely embassies. This isn’t a stretch.

And, of course, the Senator wasn’t even aware of what was included in the Marines’ mission brief, or this specific battalion’s background:
The announcement on deployment specifically listed this group’s expertise in crowd control.
Hopefully you asked a question of the esteemed Senator with that knowledge

And, of course, this elephant in the room:
First off, Blumenthal was caught lying about his military service, so there’s that. Also, Marines can be used to secure Fed properties, freeing up local cops to do their thing.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
All of the comments, taken together, point out the one thing that should be abundantly clear: Senator Dick Blumenthal, on military matters, should stay in his lane – that lane being on the other side of the ditch, over the fence, and a hundred yards into the cornfield.
