A federal grand jury last week convicted a south Florida man of wire fraud and entering a secure area of an airport by false pretenses.
A man named Tiron Alexander, aged 35, pretended to be a flight attendant and booked numerous free flights between 2018 and 2024 using a designated website reserved for pilots and flight attendants, as reported by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
Although Alexander reserved 34 flights through that particular website, he was found to have actually booked over 120 complimentary flights with three other airline companies, according to trial evidence.
During the application process on the airline carrier’s website, Alexander falsely claimed to work for seven different airlines. He provided bogus information, including approximately 30 different badge numbers and hire dates, as detailed by the US Attorney’s Office.
The Transportation Security Administration investigated the case, and sentencing has been set for August 25.
He faces up to 30 years in prison, WFOR said.
