As per a senior official from Homeland Security who spoke to Fox News, four migrants managed to flee from the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey. This incident occurred on Thursday evening in the wake of a disturbance inside the facility.
“Additional law enforcement partners have been brought in to find these escapees and a BOLO has been disseminated,” the official said.
According to immigration attorney Mustafa Cetin, who shared details with NJ.com, approximately 50 detainees within the privately operated center took down a wall in one of the dormitories. This action followed frustration among the detainees due to meal delays.
“It’s about the food, and some of the detainees were getting aggressive and it turned violent,” Cetin said.
Cetin mentioned that his client observed the wall being relatively weak and noticed detainees using bedsheets, possibly in an attempt to escape. Additionally, the client mentioned detecting a smell of gas while the incident unfolded.

The incident comes just two days after Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., was indicted on three federal charges stemming from a previous visit to Delaney Hall on May 9.
McIver was with Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and others during what was described as an oversight visit. Baraka was initially charged with trespassing, but the charge was later dropped.
