Medina County Sheriff: Man wanted for assaulting police officer caught in Orrville after multi-county chase

Jason Voskion allegedly tried to strike a Medina Township officer with his vehicle during a pursuit before being apprehended a day later in Orrville.

Jason Voskion, who was being sought for assaulting a police officer, has been apprehended by deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in Orrville with the assistance of Medina County Sheriff’s officials. The capture took place after a series of pursuits involving various law enforcement agencies.

The incident unfolded when officers from Medina Township tried to pull over a Toyota Camry being driven by Voskion on a Thursday afternoon. It was discovered that Voskion was wanted on a felony warrant for assaulting a police officer.

Reportedly, the chase involving Voskion commenced on Granger Road in Medina Township and spanned several miles, with Voskion even veering off-road to circumvent a road closure in Sharon Township.

“During the course of traveling off road, a Medina Township officer exited his patrol car in an effort to apprehend Voskion,” Medina County Sheriff’s officials stated. “At this point, Voskion attempted to strike the officer with his vehicle. The officer, perceiving an immediate threat, discharged his firearm at Voskion’s vehicle. Despite this, Voskion continued to flee southbound and was ultimately lost from view.”

Investigators also discovered that earlier on Thursday, the Copley Police Department had encountered Voskion when they were dispatched for a suspicious person complaint. “Mr. Voskion was stopped and failed to provide identification and fled the scene. A short pursuit ensued before Copley Police Department terminated the pursuit,” the release added.

On Friday, Voskion was discovered in Orrville and fled from Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies when they tried to initiate a traffic stop.

“The chase continued through several jurisdictions. The suspect’s vehicle became disabled. He then fled on foot and was apprehended several minutes later by law enforcement. There were no injuries to any law enforcement officers,” Medina County sheriff’s officials reported.

Voskion was transported to an area hospital “for evaluation of self-inflicted injuries” after the arrest.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains active and they are leading the investigation.
