An Alabama toddler, who went missing after his father and sister tragically lost their lives in a car accident, is thought to have disappeared in early September.
The 1-year-old, Kahleb Collins, was officially reported missing on December 9, a day subsequent to the fatal crash that claimed the lives of his father, Steven, and 2-year-old sister, Ryleigh. The accident occurred on County Road 73 in Fayette County, where the father and a critically injured mother, who were not wearing seatbelts, lost control of their vehicle and collided with a tree as noted by AL.com.
Authorities took the missing boy’s grandfather, John Bailey, into custody on December 11 for neglecting to notify authorities about the toddler’s disappearance. Investigations suggest that the child went missing on September 10 and was not involved in the incident that took the lives of his father and sister.
Though Khaleb Collins is believed to have vanished in September, Steven Collins posted on Facebook about his son’s health issues on November 6 — a month before his death.
“Our son is not doing well. He is not growing has major back issues. His organs are growing but not his body. He has to have surgery at some point. Keep him in your prayers. Been rough and just seems going to be a long rough road ahead of us,” he wrote, according to AL.com.
John Bailey remains jailed on a $100,000 bond. The State Bureau of Investigation is participating in the ongoing search for his missing grandson.
