Armed suspect targeted by peacekeepers in Utah protest, accidentally shooting innocent bystander

An innocent bystander who was shot during a “No Kings” protest in Utah has died, police said Sunday. 

The individual known as Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, who is the victim of the incident, was shot while a protest was taking place on Saturday. The protest drew in approximately 10,000 individuals. Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd confirmed that Ah Loo passed away later on the same evening.

“Our victim was not the intended target,” said Redd, who added that Ah Loo, 39, was just participating in the march. 

Another individual, Gamboa, sustained injuries during the event. Authorities supposedly discovered a rifle and a gas mask in Gamboa’s backpack. Medical personnel transported Gamboa to the hospital for treatment. Subsequently, detectives placed Gamboa under arrest and detained him at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on a murder charge.

Two SWAT medics performed life-saving care on the victim before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said. 

The shooter was cooperating with investigators, police said. 

Gamboa, who did not fire a shot, doesn’t have any criminal history, the chief said.
