Wheel of Fortune fans lost it when a contestant on Tuesday’s episode had a rather unfortunate gaffe, just one month after another viral missolve.
Phil McManus, hailing from Palmer, Massachusetts, managed to win $9,800 by solving a Same Letter puzzle with just three words. The first two words, “Chocolates” and “Chestnuts,” were already revealed.
By purchasing the last vowel, which was “I,” Phil was left with the third word as CHI_NE_S. Despite this partial word, Phil attempted to guess the complete phrase as “Chocolate Chestnuts and Chickens.” Unfortunately, his answer was incorrect.
The next contestant – Matt Komma from Riverton, Utah, solved immediately, with the correct response: “Chocolates Chestnuts and Chimneys.’
Wheel fans were quick to respond on social media, skewering Phil for the missolve, including @WheelRob10.
@WheelRob10 shared a screengrab of Phil’s missolve, adding, ‘That was my shopping list last weekend. #WheelofFortune.’
@CouplaColdies shared a video of the missolve, adding, ‘Christmas theme episode of Wheel of Fortune! And this was the guess by the contestant.’
‘Love Wheel of Fortune but where do these contestants come from #chickens #wheeloffortune,’ the fan added.
Another fan, @dfwheat, brought up last month’s viral missolve, tweeting, ‘Treat yourself a round of sausage! And chickens! #wheeloffortune’
In a previous month, a misinterpretation occurred when Will Jordan of Wethersfield, Connecticut, made an incorrect guess. He proposed, ‘Treat yourself a round of sausage,’ when the correct response should have been, ‘Give yourself a round of applause.’
@itsallrealitv got a bit political, tweeting, ‘#wheeloffortune The answer was Chickens. No wonder Trump got elected.’
Another X user, ‘@ACinPhilly, tweeted the video, adding, ‘Chocolates, Chestnuts and…. #WheelOfFortune.’Â
@squand4 said, ‘When I think of chocolates and chestnuts, the next word I think of is chickens. #WheelofFortune
Wheel fan @ReginaldLBarnes was in disbelief, tweeting, ‘Did that man look at that puzzle and say Chocolate, Chestnuts and Chickens??? For a Christmas puzzle?!?’
Before the game began, Phil revealed to the audience he was, ‘handed a death sentence two years ago,’ adding he was told, ‘you’re pretty much done.’
He made a bucket list of three items – rock band Blink-182 reuniting, attending WrestleMania and going to Disneyland.Â
‘I’d never been to Disneyland, and I actually went last night for the first time, and I’m actually in remission now,’ Phil said as the crowd applauded.
Phil also said he had ‘at least 45 tattoos total,’ and several of those are Disney-themed including Haunted Mansion’s Madame Leota on my hand.’
‘I got my little hidden Mickey right here. I got Gaston on my chest. They’re everywhere, man,’ Phil said.
