A woman’s husband got pregnant by another man… and now they’re raising the ‘miracle’ baby together.
Tucker Gilbert, a 29-year-old registered nurse from York, Pennsylvania, was assigned female at birth but started transitioning to male in 2016. This involved undergoing hormone replacement therapy and having top surgery.
He met Danielle, 32, who works as a nurse, in 2020 while they were both employed at the same hospital.
The two grew close and while they started off as friends, they soon realized that they were developing feelings for one another.
In a conversation with Daily Mail, Tucker shared that while developing feelings for Danielle, he felt uncertain about his ability to meet her needs. Consequently, he proposed the idea of having an open relationship with her.
‘This was actually the first building block of our relationship,’ Tucker explained.
‘[In the early months] we talked about our ideal dynamic. I suggested being polyamorous and she felt the same way.
‘I am rather quiet and don’t have much of a drive so I didn’t want her to feel as if she had to give up her needs for us to be together.

‘So we started our relationship under the premise that we were open to having other people involved in our romantic lives.
‘There wasn’t any jealousy. We’ve had partners separate of each other and we’ve dated people together.’
The couple got engaged in 2023, and in April 2024, Tucker found out that he gotten pregnant from a man he was seeing on the side despite using protection.
At the time, Danielle had actually been trying to get pregnant using a sperm donor so they could start a family together – and they felt like it was fate.
‘Even with being transgender, I [always] imagined carrying my own child,’ Tucker explained.
‘When I started medically transitioning for my mental and physical health, I had accepted that I probably would not have or carry children.
‘I was excited [about being pregnant] but also deeply worried about what it meant for us. Dani was shocked but relieved.’
The couple wed that August, and their daughter, Maya, was born in February 2025.

Tucker explained during a chat with DailyMail.com that while he was falling for Danielle, he felt like he wouldn’t be able to satisfy her so he suggested they have an open relationship

Tucker explained that her biological father is not part of her life, but they plan to be completely honest with Maya about their situation when she’s old enough.
‘[Maya’s father] said he wasn’t ready mentally or financially to be in her life and we respect that,’ Tucker shared.
‘There is an open line of communication if he would like or if Maya wants to seek him out when she’s older.
‘Any time she has questions about her biological donor we plan to meet her on whatever level of understanding she it at.
‘Our responses will change over time, but always convey the truth of the situation. Plus she will have questions about our other partners and we plan to be direct with her, we live how we do and don’t have anything to hide from her.’
Since Tucker had a radical mastectomy in 2017, he doesn’t have the mammary tissue to support breastfeeding.
So Danielle decided to go through the lengthy process to induce lactation so she could breastfeed their baby.
‘Dani had to go on a hormone regime several months leading up to the birth,’ Tucker dished.

‘The hormones were then abruptly stopped and she switched to an antiemetic medication and a pumping schedule.
‘It was essentially making her body think it was pregnant and gave birth. She has been able to bond with Maya through breastfeeding.’
The couple has been open about their out-of-the-ordinary dynamic online, but unfortunately, they’ve been subjected to a slew of hate comments.
Tucker insisted, however, that they are unbothered by the negativity, explaining that he believes it stems from a ‘lack of exposure to the transgender community.’
‘Most just don’t understand why I would want to be pregnant or do something so ‘womanly’ after purposefully rejecting the femininity in my life prior,’ he said.
‘Dani and I both find entertainment in the hateful and nonsensical comments. Their irony is what we find hilarious and we have a good time responding comically. We just keep laughing and living our lives essentially.’

Tucker said he’s been told he ‘shouldn’t exist’ or that he’s ‘severely delusional’ and that Maya should be ‘taken away’ from them. The couple has even ‘gotten threats.’
Tucker added, ‘Harboring that level of hatred instead of just not interacting with my content is beyond my ability to understand.’
In the end, they said they have no regrets and are so happy with their ‘miracle’ baby.
‘We call Maya our gay miracle strictly because we did everything not to make her but she was meant to exist regardless of our efforts,’ Tucker concluded.
‘You don’t have to decide between living a happy authentic life and having a family.
‘I went from thinking I wouldn’t make it past 16 to now having everything I could dream for – an accepting family, a wife and partners, an adorable little baby, and immense love for myself.’
