More than 30,000 still without power in Northeast Ohio after severe thunderstorms barrel through area

Storm warnings were issued throughout the region on Wednesday, with some counties even dealing with tornado threats.

In Northeast Ohio, a Weather Impact Alert was in place all day Wednesday. By evening, severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes were affecting residents in the region.

After the storms passed, a significant amount of damage was evident, leaving many FirstEnergy customers without power.

As of 1 a.m., here are some of the current outage numbers by county:

  • Cuyahoga: 15,328
  • Summit: 8,127
  • Lorain: 6,721
  • Richland: 1,861
  • Huron: 1,236
  • Medina: 1,149
  • Lake: 1,131

Furthermore, PowerOutage.us reports that over 1,600 individuals in Carroll County have experienced power outages, mainly from American Electric Power Ohio.

Overall across the state, more than 50,000 FirstEnergy customers are currently in the dark, with the Toledo area in particular taking a heavy hit. The company does not currently have an estimate as to when power will be full restored.

Amid severe thunderstorm, tornado, and flash flood warnings in Northeast Ohio, 3News received a number of reports of damage across the area. In Parma Heights, a tree fell down onto at least one home. No one is believed to have been hurt.

And in Cuyahoga Falls, heavy rain and lightning delayed the evening’s Mumford & Sons concert. However, the show was able to resume just after 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has not yet confirmed if any tornadoes touched down in the region.
