The official synopsis for 28 Years Later says, “A group of survivors of the rage virus live on a small island. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors.”

Will Cillian Murphy Appear in ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’?
Much to the delight of many fans, producer and director Danny Boyle revealed plans to bring back Murphy in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Boyle directed both 28 Days Later and 28 Years Later, while Nia DaCosta directed the soon-to-be released 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
“He’s an executive producer on this and was enormously supportive. He appears briefly in Nia’s film,” Boyle told Variety in June 2025. “I don’t think that’s giving too much away, and our plan is that he will be an enormous character in the third film in the way that Jack O’Connell’s character — who you see briefly at the end of the first film — is an enormous character with Ralph Fiennes in the next film.”
