A man named Julian Brooks, aged 25, was apprehended with the assistance of a Lorain K9 unit after reportedly stabbing another man in the chest following an argument on West River Road South.
ELYRIA, Ohio — Elyria police say a suspect accused of stabbing a man on Thursday is in custody.Â
According to a release, officers were called to the 6200 block of West River Road South at approximately 6:45 p.m. for a report of a stabbing.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a 34-year-old male victim on the front porch of a residence, with an apparent stab wound to his chest. The victim was then taken by LifeCare EMS to the University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for medical attention, as stated by the police.
Investigators were able to establish that the suspect behind the incident was 25-year-old Julian Brooks. According to witnesses, there was a confrontation between Brooks and the victim due to an ongoing dispute that had started earlier in the day.
During the confrontation, Brooks allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object before fleeing the area on foot.
“Responding officers, with the assistance of a Lorain Police K9 unit, conducted an extensive search of the area. Brooks was ultimately located on the south side of Sommer Way and taken into custody without further incident,” officials added.
Brooks was charged with felonious assault and obstructing official business. He was interviewed at the Elyria Police Department and later transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending arraignment in Elyria Municipal Court.
“We commend our officers and detectives for their swift response and thorough investigation that led to the suspect’s apprehension without further risk to public safety,” said Elyria Chief of Police James Welsh in a statement. Â
