A man allegedly fatally shot his parents in two different counties before killing himself after shooting a deputy and a dog, authorities said.
Fox 7 Austin reported that a welfare check was conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in Harris County, specifically in the 11700 block of Hillbrook. It was during this check that officers discovered a deceased woman who had suffered a gunshot wound.
Following the discovery, the Department of Public Safety reached out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. After investigations, authorities concluded that the woman’s death was linked to an incident occurring approximately 90 miles away in Leon County, where the deceased woman was identified as the mother of the shooter.
The tragic chain of events continued in Leon County, where the suspect reportedly shot and killed a man believed to be his father. During an attempt by law enforcement to enter the residence, the suspect proceeded to shoot a deputy and a dog before ultimately turning the firearm on himself.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the deputy was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. The dog died at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case in Harris County, while Texas DPS is leading the investigation in Leon County.
