‘The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin Says AOC Is “Too Far Left,” Claims “Democrats Focused Too Much On Trump” Ahead Of The Election

It has been over a month since Vice President Kamala Harris was defeated by Donald Trump, and the hosts of The View are pondering how Democrats can regain the support of young voters. This concern has been fueled by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent loss in her bid for leadership of the House Oversight Committee to Rep. Gerry Connolly, a more moderate candidate.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, the lone Republican on the panel, expressed her belief that many Americans are not in favor of certain progressive policies that have been proposed.

Griffin stated, “The details matter because a large portion of the population does not back initiatives like the Green New Deal, which could potentially harm job opportunities nationwide and negatively impact the economy.”

Ignoring Sunny Hostin‘s objections, Griffin continued, “It would actually make international travel virtually impossible to do because of some of the regulations that would be put in place.”

The former White House staffer then turned her attention to universal healthcare.

“Of course, anyone who needs emergency coverage [should have it and] people should have catastrophic coverage, but most Americans think they want to have some choice and optionality in their healthcare,” she said. “There’s a reason Obamacare did not have the public option. That’s not where the majority of the country is.”

Griffin argued that Ocasio-Cortez is “definitely too far left for the majority of the country,” before explaining why she thinks Harris lost the presidential race.

“From my perspective, as a Republican who didn’t support Trump, this may sound weird, I think Democrats focused too much on Trump,” she said. “People who were gonna be with Donald Trump were gonna be with Donald Trump. There needed to be more of a, ‘This is who we are. This is what we’re proactively fighting for.’”

“I can think of three or four policies that were laid out by the Vice President,” she noted. “She talked about support for elderly parents, she talked about these first-time homebuyer payments.”

When Hostin reminded Griffin of Harris’ proposal for an “opportunity economy,” Griffin said, “But again, that’s a platitude. What does it mean?”

“In this world we live in, when you have three months especially, I don’t know that people knew what she was for and then a lot of her positions in 2020, she was on the completely opposite side of now,” Griffin said. “So, I think you have to decide: what is it, not what you’re against.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
