Idaho murder victim's mom breaks silence two years after daughter's killing

University of Idaho murder victim Madison Mogen’s mother spoke publicly for the first time Wednesday since the quadruple homicide in 2022.

Mogen, 21, along with three other students, including her 21-year-old best friend, Kaylee Goncalves; their roommate, 20-year-old Xana Kernodle; and Kernodle’s 20-year-old boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, were tragically stabbed to death in their residence just a few steps away from the U of I campus on November 13, 2022.

Karen Laramie, Mogen’s mother, appeared on the “TODAY” show on Wednesday and shared, “It’s real, but I know where the girls are, and faith is really the basis of how you get up every morning when you have a loss this deep,” in response to being asked if the immense gravity of her daughter’s passing two years prior feels authentic.

She described the 21-year-old as “a joy” in her younger years and a genuinely kind person as she grew into adulthood.
