Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando will get a massive upgrade in the next few years as part of a $300 million expansion.
Nemours announced a plan Tuesday to add three new buildings to its hospital campus at Lake Nona.
The expansion plan for the pediatric hospital includes increasing its size by 110,000 square feet by 2028. This expansion will result in the Emergency Department being doubled in size. Additionally, new inpatient beds, observation rooms, and a larger space for the imaging department will be added.
By 2028, Nemours is also set to construct a new 75,000-square-foot facility. This new facility will house six additional operating rooms for the surgery center and introduce new patient exam rooms.
Furthermore, the new facility will accommodate Nemours’ orthopedics division and expand services related to sports medicine and rehabilitation therapy. A key addition will be the presence of Nemours’ International Center for Limb Lengthening, aimed at assisting patients with conditions such as clubfoot, limb length discrepancies, joint contractures, among others.
Nemours will also house Florida’s first Gait and Motion Analysis lab. This facility helps children who have a neuromuscular condition that makes movement difficult, such as spina bifida or cerebral palsy.
A new administrative building and parking garage are also expected to open in 2027.
Nemours says it already currently cares for over 300,000 children and teens in Florida, and Central Florida’s pediatric population of 1 million is expected to grow by nearly 5% in the next five years.
