A traveler on a cruise ship passed away shortly before Christmas after attempting to leap from the vessel, as per reports.
Tragedy unfolded on the Princess Cruises vessel, Sky Princess, on Saturday as it was en-route back to Florida.
Passengers on board the ship had been traveling in the Caribbean for eight days, starting their trip on December 15.
During the cruise, they visited locations such as Cozumel, Mexico, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and toured the Grand Cayman Islands.
But, one woman tried to jump from the vessel and landed on the deck, as reported by Cruise Radio.
A spokesperson for Princess Cruises confirmed she died.
“Shipboard personnel immediately provided emergency medical care, but despite their best efforts, she could not be revived,” they told the outlet.
TikTok videos captured the moment ship personnel shared the news with other passengers.
Travelers were in their cabins while an announcement was broadcast through overhead speakers.
Passengers were told that the woman tried to jump overboard but had died.
The travel company has since offered support to travelers who have been affected.
They have been given the chance to speak with counseling services on board the ship.
An investigation into the woman’s death has since been launched.
The Sky Princess vessel has been in service since 2019, and more than 3,600 passengers can fit on the ship.
It comes just weeks after an American man, 72, was feared to have died after falling overboard from the Ruby Princess cruise ship.
The passenger disappeared during a trip that saw travelers head to Mexico on a five-day journey.
Officials suspected the man went overboard before the vessel docked in San Francisco.
A search for the passenger, who hasn’t been named, was launched, and officials reviewed surveillance footage.
Coast Guard planes and helicopters were deployed as search teams scoured the area.
The search has since been suspended.
The Ruby Princess, like the Sky Princess, can hold more than 3,000 passengers on board.
