When it comes to presidential appointments, advisers and ambassadorships are usually not as controversial as selecting key cabinet members. However, they can still create some tension, especially when chosen by the President-elect Donald Trump.
I can recall the uproar caused by George W. Bush’s decision to appoint Sam Fox as the Ambassador to Belgium through a recess appointment, which caused quite a stir among liberals. Hence, I am less surprised by such reactions than I might have been in the past.
Trump’s recent announcements over the weekend are bound to be divisive, as they involve his own family members. For instance, on Saturday, he announced that Charles Kushner, who is Ivanka’s father-in-law, will be his nomination for Ambassador to France, a move that is sure to attract attention.
On Sunday, Trump named daughter Tiffany’s father-in-law, Massad Boulos, as Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.

Tiffany, Trump’s younger daughter, wed Boulos’ son, Michael, in 2022, and is expecting their first child.
