I bought someone's lost luggage from Heathrow Airport for £80 - inside I found a designer staple worth £160 and TWO luxury gadgets

A woman who bought a lost suitcase for £80 has revealed everything that she got inside it, including an iPad, Ugg boots and a Kindle.

Becky Chorlton, from Lymm in Cheshire, purchased the luggage which had been abandoned at London Heathrow.

The airport keeps lost items for a period of three months from when they were discovered or handed in. There is a possibility of being charged up to £25 to recover lost belongings.

However, cases left unclaimed are sometimes given to auction houses which then sell off the bags and contents to the highest bidder.

Becky shared an Instagram video of herself opening the case after buying it for £80 – and she managed to find bag herself some gems.

She said: ‘This is my third time ordering one of these and let me tell you, it is definitely a risk, but honestly it is so much fun.’

Upon opening the large pink shiny hard-shelled case, the content creator was first drawn to the Ugg boots on the top of the piles of clothes.

These ‘new’ sparkly premium boots were embroidered with black sequins and retail for a whopping £160.

If they are legitimate product, Becky has already made back double what she paid for the case with the first item.

Her luck then extended even further, as she dug around and found a pair of nude- coloured Juicy Couture slides which retail for £36.

Bizarrely, Becky then came across some Pokémon cards, which can be quite valuable depending on which ones she has.

She received Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Elite Trainer Box which are currently fetching between £36 to £65 online.

‘This is so random, I have no idea why you’d need to take them on holiday,’ she said.

During her search, Becky came across a pair of hair straighteners, with one being unbranded and the other identified as the TRESemme Keratin Smooth straightener – which has a retail price of £40 when new.

Much to her shock, Becky found a white iPad in the suitcase and she plugged it in - however doesn't know what generation the product is

To her surprise, Becky also stumbled upon a white iPad while going through the suitcase. Although uncertain about its specific generation, it is worth noting that Apple phased out the middle button from its devices in 2021.

As this iPad has a middle button, it would mean that it is at least four years old and could retail for around £150 second hand.

Becky managed to plug in the iPad and it turned on with the charging symbol, indicating that it does indeed work, but it may even be locked with a passcode.

The device has been reset, however it ‘glitches’ on the welcome screen and ‘shouts’ at her in French.

The TikToker then found a bunch of brand new Shein clothes that still had the tags on and were in plastic bags.

Speaking candidly, Becky said: ‘I’m still really sceptical about these lost luggage cases because although so far this is the best one I’ve received, none of it actually makes any sense to be a legitimate person’s suitcase, it’s all very random.’

She then found what appeared to be a man’s toiletries bag which had deodorant and a toothbrush inside, before uncovering a makeup bag with used products inside.

It seems the owners of this case are quite conscious with their health, as they Becky found two fitness trackers which had seemingly runout of charge.

How does buying lost luggage work?

According to the Money Saving Expert blog, there are many different auction houses that sell on lost luggage and each one does things differently.

Wellers and Mulberry Bank only sell empty cases and the items inside are taken out and sold separately.

Whereas Greasbys and BCVA do sell empty suitcases but they also offer others with clothes and other items still inside.

Some auction houses will sometimes let you see what is inside the case before you purchase it, whereas others will just have a description, for example ‘women’s clothing’.

Prices can vary between £10 and £80, depending on whether the cases are full or empty.

Before they sell them on, airlines will unlock the cases and remove any identification such as ID and check that everything in the case is legal.

Auction houses will then remove any significantly valuable items such as electronics, jewellery and perfume, according to the blog.

According to Money Saving Expert, if an airline has lost your luggage, you need to put a claim in within seven days. If they still haven’t tracked it down within 21 days, your suitcase is ‘officially lost.’

The content creator then found a pair of brand new ‘insanely cute’ baby Stan Smith Adidas trainers which retail for £25, which still had the tags on.

‘Next up I pulled out this Kindle which looked a bit beat up, I’m not going to lie,’ Becky said.

Brand new Kindles go for around £95 but preowned devices fetch around £25 to £30 on websites like eBay.

Becky then pulled out a multi-coloured leopard print fur coat which she admitted was her ‘favourite thing’ out of the entire suitcase.

She then pulled out a pair of wireless headphones, a toy tractor and a couple of pairs of goggles, hair brushes, children’s books, neck pillows and another makeup bag.

In the caption, Becky wrote: ‘According to the website this case is apparently unclaimed and the airport have tried for months to reunite it with its original owner unfortunately the only option is for it to be burnt / head to landfill or for personal items to be removed and then the rest be sold.’

The video racked up thousands of views and many people commented their thoughts on whether it was worth the money.

One wrote: ‘This is clearly a person returning from holiday after having done a lot of shopping abroad.’

Another penned: ‘Imagine watching this and you’re finding all of someone’s belongings.’

A third said: ‘Looks like they packed a load of gifts for family they were visiting, makes me sad they lost it!’

A fourth commented: ‘Why all the brand new stuff? Very sus.’
