VICE President Kamala Harris has been slammed for fumbling the words to the Pledge of Allegiance on Capitol Hill.
The former Democratic presidential candidate was swearing in new senators when she blatantly misquoted the pledge.
“I pledge allegiance, to the United States,” Harris is heard saying before trailing off, omitting the phrase “to the flag.”
Vice President-elect JD Vance was spotted laughing as Harris fumbled over her words.
The video clip quickly made the rounds on social media.
Donald Trump Junior shared the video on X, formerly known as Twitter, along with three laughing emojis.
“Disgrace,” one person wrote on X.
“We dodged a bullet,” another wrote.
Harris was in Congress for the swearing-in of new senators as part of her duties as Joe Biden’s vice president.
She is responsible for tasks similar to those carried out by the Senate President, like casting tie-breaking votes and overseeing impeachment trials that do not concern a current president.
It comes as Speaker Mike Johnson appears set to fail in the first ballot to keep his position as the House votes to elect its leader.
Johnson can only afford to lose one Republican vote, with Rep. Thomas Massie from Kentucky the first to vote “no” on his reelection.
Massie cast his ballot for Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer, the current House majority whip.
Around a dozen other Conservative Republicans are said to be undecided on a pivotal day in Washington DC.
The election of the Speaker must be completed before the House can take any other actions.
That includes the swearing-in of its members, adopting a rules package, and, eventually, certifying President-elect Trump’s victory on Monday.
So far, three Republicans appear to have defected from the party line and voted for another candidate for speaker.
Representative Ralph Norman from South Carolina became the second Republican to rebel, casting his vote for Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan.
He was followed shortly afterward by Texas Rep. Keith Self, who cast his ballot for Florida’s Byron Donalds instead.
However, members are able to change their votes as the roll call is ongoing.
