You want to ring in the new year with your loved ones… but one woman’s video showing her attempt to surprise her boyfriend has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
The divisive clip was originally posted by TikTok user Carleigh under the username @carbar3. She has since taken the video down, but reposts shared on the video-sharing app show the questionable moves made by the boyfriend.
In the clip, the woman arrives at a New Year’s Eve party excited to see her long-distance partner – who looked as though he’d seen a ghost as she walked up behind him.
While Carleigh, wearing an eye-catching purpled sequinned dress and feather boa, looked thrilled to see the unnamed man – he flinched as he looked over his shoulder.
‘Surprising my boyfriend on New Year’s Eve (he thought I was working),’ the woman captioned the video.Â
While the girlfriend looked ecstatic to be spending the new year with the man she loves, he could be seen clutching his drink and desperately looking around as his face turned redder and redder.
Not noticing his discomfort, Carleigh continued to excitedly look around as he appeared to inch away.
Some viewers also believed he physically pushed his girlfriend away when she leaned in for a kiss.Â

The man has since been dubbed the ‘2025 couch guy’ – as his behavior is reminiscent of the infamous 2021 TikTok video showing a girl surprising her boyfriend at college – where eagled eyed viewers claim he looked more shocked than excited to see her.
The video went viral with skeptical users making their own clips to share their thoughts about the surprise.Â
‘This is “couch guy” all over again, but even worse,’ user Stephanie Tleiji declared in a video with over 1.4 million views.
‘I feel like she’s the other women and she doesn’t know it yet,’ another TikTok user replied to the video.Â

Others argued he seemed more scared than defensive – hypothesizing the relationship may not be as serious as she thinks it is.

The unnamed pal connected her phone to the TV and showcased the jaw-dropping find as she revealed Grace’s boyfriend was actively searching for a new love interest. The viral clip was captioned: ‘I’m sick. #Cheatingboyfriend.’

As soon as he saw his dating profile on the big screen, Alexis jumped off the couch and fell to his knees on the floor.
