'Life After Beth' director Jeff Baena dies at 47

A cause of death was not immediately released.

Jeff Baena, a renowned writer, producer, and director recognized for his work on comedic films such as “The Little Hours,” “Life After Beth,” and “Joshy,” has passed away at the age of 47 in Los Angeles.

He died Friday in his Los Angeles home, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. A cause of death was not immediately released. 

TMZ was the first to break the news. 

Since 2021, Baena had been married to actress and producer Aubrey Plaza, his collaborator on various projects like “The Little Hours,” a comedic film depicting medieval life, and “Life After Beth,” a comedy centered around zombies.

Although Aubrey Plaza has not issued a public statement following the news of Baena’s death, reports indicate that the family is deeply saddened and requests privacy during this challenging period as conveyed by Deadline.

Plaza and Baena were together for 12 years.

He was born in Florida, studied in New York and eventually moved to California where he worked with Forrest Gump, The Polar Express and Who Framed Roger Rabbit director Robert Zemeckis.

Baena’s films were shown at Sundance and the Edinburgh International Film Festival before being released by distributors like Netflix, IFC, and Lionsgate, according to Variety. 

He was nominated for nine awards at these indie screenings, according to IMDb.
