TOP tech chief and entrepreneur Amit Yoran has died “unexpectedly” at the age of 54.
The cyber security expert, who served as the chairman and CEO of Tenable Holdings, was battling cancer.
It is understood the tech boss took a medical leave on December 5.
Tenable said in a statement that Yoran was a “visionary leader and a pioneer in the cybersecurity industry”.
The tech firm added: “Amit passed away unexpectedly yesterday. He had been battling cancer. He dedicated his life to making the digital world safer.
“His unwavering commitment to innovation and relentless pursuit of excellence transformed Tenable into a global leader in exposure management.”
Yoran completed his computer science studies at the United States Military Academy and later pursued a master’s degree in computer security at George Washington University.
In 1998, he co-founded Virginia-based Riptech Inc., which worked to protect government and corporate computers from attacks, CNN reports.
Prior to his current role, he held the position of president at RSA Security, a company specializing in computer and network security. Additionally, he established NetWitness, a platform dedicated to threat detection and response.
During the period from 2003 to 2005, Yoran played a crucial role as the inaugural director of the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team program at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Tenable is a cyber security firm that specializes in exposure management for top companies around the world.
Yoran is survived by his wife and three children.
