Lara Trump reveals how father-in-law Donald reacted when she decided against running for the Senate

Donald Trump wasn’t pleased when daughter-in-law Lara decided she didn’t want to be considered for the opening Senate seat in Florida.

Lara Trump mentioned to DailyMail.com that she believes her father-in-law’s interest decreased in the selection process for filling the seat once she removed herself from consideration last month.

When questioned about who she thinks is now his favored choice since she is no longer an option, she stated, ‘The only person that Donald Trump wanted to see there was probably me.’

Trump added: ‘He was a little upset whenever I said that, you know, ‘I’m not gonna do it right now.”

Initially, her name was suggested as the primary candidate to take over for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio once he steps down from his role upon being confirmed as the next Secretary of State.

The president-elect said Lara, who’s married to his son Eric, was his favorite to get the job.

‘Would you support Lara Trump to replace Marco Rubio in Florida Senate?’ Trump posted to X on December 4.

The social media poll saw 75.8 percent of respondents say they wanted to see her in the position.

But last month, the former co-chair of the Republican National Committee said she would ‘remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate’ but previewed that she will announce her next career move later in January.

It’s unclear what exactly is next for Lara Trump, but the president-elect’s daughter-in-law spoke with DailyMail.com about her new fitness apparel line and releasing new music this year.

She also said that after inauguration she will be making an announcement about her career, and assured: ‘You’ll be seeing more of me not less of me.’

‘For some people, that’s a great thing,’ she acknowledged. ‘Some people might not like that.’

It’s up to Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to appoint the person that will be the next senator once Rubio steps down.

Asked who she thinks Trump prefers to take the seat now, Lara admitted: ‘I haven’t talked to him about who he thinks would be the right fit.’

‘I would say, as far as Governor Ron DeSantis is concerned, I believe he will choose a great person,’ she noted. ‘And I think the amazing thing is, he has really great names in terms of people who could potentially fill that seat.’

‘I think he’s run this state very successfully,’ she said of the governor who challenged Trump for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024. ‘He’s one of the reasons Eric and I moved our entire family to Florida, because we did a great job here and has done a great job as governor.’

‘I think his instinct will probably lead him in the right direction,’ she concluded.

Some have floated that former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz would be a consideration for the Senate seat after he resigned from the House when he was tapped by president-elect Trump to be his Attorney General.

Gaetz stepped out of the race to be AG after a smear campaign emerged against him regarding allegations of sexual misconduct and assault related to the House Ethics investigation into his past behavior.

‘That would be an interesting move to leave the House and then all of a sudden, become a Senator,’ Lara Trump told DailyMail.com of Gaetz.

‘Look, I think Matt Gaetz is wonderful,’ she went on. ‘I think he is a true America First patriot. I think he’s been a great ally of my father-in-law’s.’

‘When you’re considering the right person to fill the seat, you want somebody who has those same priorities, who has the same goals in mind for this country,’ Lara Trump said. ‘And I think it’s one of the reasons that he was considered as a possible Attorney General.’

‘So if it’s him, I think that would be great. I’d be very happy to see that.’

Gaetz just started in his new role as an anchor with conservative One America News Network, where he sported a shorter haircut and changes to his facial features that had people speculating he had work done.
