Tiffany Henyard update: Stalemate continues in Thornton Township; Dolton mayor 'cancels' meeting over security concerns

THORNTON TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) — A stalemate continued in Thornton Township on Monday.

Supervisor Tiffany Henyard did not attend an emergency meeting. Neither did another trustee, so there were not enough members to vote on Monday.

The board has not been able to approve insurance coverage or past-due bills because of the attendance issues.

Trustees Carmen Carlisle and Chris Gonzalez called the meeting after they skipped several board meetings over disagreements with Henyard.

Separately, the Dolton village board is set to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Henyard, who is the village mayor, tried to cancel the meeting, citing unspecified security concerns.

But other trustees told ABC7 it will take place as scheduled.

Henyard chose to cancel the meeting scheduled for January 6th due to credible threats against multiple elected officials. In a statement, the Mayor expressed concern for the safety of residents, elected officials, and visitors in the village. Henyard emphasized the decision was made to avoid putting anyone at risk and assured that the meeting would be rescheduled once the threats were adequately addressed.

Dolton Trustee Jason House acknowledged the potential for a peaceful protest during the Village of Dolton Board meeting and clarified that despite Mayor Henyard’s absence, the meeting would proceed as planned. House assured that the Board had not received any credible threats concerning the protest. He emphasized the importance of respecting peaceful demonstrations while maintaining a constructive and orderly environment. The priority remained the safety and well-being of all attendees, with necessary precautions in place to ensure a secure and productive meeting.
