New year, more The View!
An announcement from ABC on Wednesday revealed that the Friday panel of the daytime talk show, which includes Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Sara Haines, will be hosting a new 30-minute weekend program called The Weekend View. It seems like Whoopi Goldberg will be taking it easy over the weekend.
The upcoming show, similar to its predecessor, will concentrate on the most significant happenings in entertainment and the most talked-about news on social media platforms. It will debut this Saturday (Jan. 11) at 7:30 a.m. ET on ABC News Live, the network’s 24/7 streaming service, and will also be re-broadcasted throughout the weekend.
Produced by The View, The Weekend View is under the executive production of Brian Teta, with Robin Hommel as the executive broadcast producer and Sarah de la O as the director. RoC Skincare is the exclusive sponsor of the show, making it the first program on the streaming platform to feature an integrated brand sponsorship.
“With all-new ‘Hot Topics,’ the co-hosts will give their one-of-a-kind takes with their signature candor and humor,” the release shares. “Plus, The Weekend View will include Behind The Table segments with executive producer Brian Teta and the co-hosts as they dive deeper into pop-culture stories from the week.”
The extended “Hot Topics” segment will be filmed during the week at some point after The View‘s normal weekday broadcast is taped, per Variety.
According to the outlet, Karin Gilford, senior vice president of Digital Media, ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks, said that The Weekend View‘s content will not be as centered on politics, noting that they are “following what [they’ve] seen be successful on ABC News Live on the weekends” and that “on Saturdays and Sundays, it’s sort of the more a lighter feel.”
“They’re still covering all the stories of the week, but in a little bit of a different tone,” she continued, in part. “So it’ll be the same show format. We’ll cover the hot topics, but it will lean a little bit more into pop culture on the weekends.”
