An Ohio woman who was found dead on her front porch on Christmas was possibly killed by her neighbor’s pigs.
Police officers discovered Rebecca Westergaard Rigney, 75, deceased outside her Pataskala home when she failed to attend a holiday gathering. She was found with leg injuries on the front steps, as per reports from WBNS.
Upon arrival, an officer noticed a large pig in the vicinity, which, along with another large pig, belonged to a neighbor. As a result of the ongoing investigation into Rigney’s death, the neighbor’s pigs were placed under quarantine.
Police believe at least one of the pigs was at Rigney’s home and may have contributed to her death.
The Licking County Coroner’s Office determined that the injuries that led to Rigney’s death were caused by livestock animals. Due to Rigney’s preexisting heart issues and use of blood thinners, her death was ruled accidental. WBNS reported the findings.
The coroner is expected to finish a complete report within six weeks. Pataskala police Chief Bruce Brooks told the Columbus Dispatch that the pigs’ owner has not been criminally charged, and it is unclear whether criminal charges will be filed in this case.
