A man was stopped and arrested by the U.S. Capitol Police on Wednesday for attempting to bring a machete into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) in Washington, D.C. This incident occurred just before 2 p.m., shortly before President-elect Trump was scheduled to meet with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill.
According to a statement from the Capitol Police on social media, officers conducting security screenings at the CVC’s north doors discovered the machete in the man’s bag.
The X-ray machine was stopped as the bag went through, then police arrested the man before securing the machete.
The man, who has not been identified, has been arrested and charged with multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon.
Trump’s transition team confirmed to Fox News Digital this week that Trump would be meeting with Republicans in the Senate on Wednesday as he prepares his return to the Oval Office later this month.
The president-elect is being hosted for the huddle by the chairperson of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., her office said.
This is a developing story.
