An Ohio teacher’s assistant has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student with special needs resembling a 9-year-old. The incident happened at the boy’s home during a snow day when classes were canceled. The accused, Christin Coble, who works for Woodmore Local School District, was apprehended on Monday in Sandusky County. The victim’s mother discovered them together and reported the incident to authorities.
Christin Coble, a 45-year-old teacher’s aide, is facing charges of rape following the disturbing encounter. The victim’s mother revealed that her son was home because the school was closed due to harsh weather conditions. The victim, who has an intellectual disability, was vulnerable to this heinous act committed by someone in a position of trust.
“Our family is absolutely devastated over all of this,” the mom said.
While specific details are limited, the victim’s mother shared with a local news outlet that she contacted the authorities upon finding Coble with her son at their residence. The gravity of the situation is amplified by the fact that the victim was not only underage but also particularly vulnerable due to his intellectual capacity.
“The investigation is still ongoing, and there may be some additional charges,” Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton told local outlets.
Coble appeared in court Wednesday and was granted a $100,000 bond. Her case will be presented to a grand jury.
“While the District cannot comment on an ongoing investigation or the personally identifiable information of students, the District’s primary concern is always the safety and well-being of its students,” Woodmore Superintendent Dr. Schaeffer told WTVG.
A law firm representing the victim’s family on Wednesday said the teen and his mother had been through “an unimaginable 48 hours.”
In addition to rape, police are weighing possible charges of burglary related to how Coble allegedly entered the victim’s home.
