A teacher’s assistant in Ohio has been accused of raping a student who has a disability that affects his mental capacity. The incident unfolded when the mother of the teenager discovered them together at the boy’s residence during a day off school due to snow.
Sheriff Chris Hilton stated, “We were alerted by the boy’s mother on Monday (Jan. 6) about the presence of this woman at her residence with her son,” recounting the events to McClatchy News.
Christin Coble, aged 45, was arrested and charged with rape following the occurrence on January 6. She appeared in court for the first time two days later, where she was set a bond of $100,000 and was instructed not to communicate with the 15-year-old victim.
The teen’s mother told WTVG that her child has the mental capacity of a 9-year-old.
“Our family is absolutely devastated over all of this,” she said about the alleged assault.
The superintendent of the Woodmore Local School District said Coble has been put on unpaid administrative leave.
Sandusky County authorities said they are still investigating the incident and are considering additional charges, including burglary for entering the home without permission.
