Summit County HAZMAT responds after death of Cleveland man during air quality testing in Twinsburg Township

Officials report that 35-year-old Dalion Ambler was conducting an air quality test in a tank when he became unresponsive, triggering a response from the Summit County HAZMAT Team.

The tragic incident took place in Twinsburg Township, Ohio, where the Summit County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Ambler’s death. The 35-year-old from Cleveland was found unresponsive while performing the test in a railroad tanker car. Responders, including the county’s HAZMAT team, quickly arrived at the scene.

Upon receiving a distress call at 9:45 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies and the Twinsburg Fire Department rushed to Emerald Transformer on Highland Road. The male victim had entered the tanker car behind the facility to conduct the air quality assessment. Two individuals were present outside the car during the test.

The two people outside the tank noticed that the man was not responding and began to assist him. Both the Summit County HAZMAT Team and the Summit County Technical Rescue Team responded to the area.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:45 p.m. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as Dalion Ambler.

Sheriff’s detectives and the office’s crime scene unit were called in to “process the scene.”

Twinsburg fire officials determined that “the employee entered the railcar with an oxygen deficient atmosphere and as a result, succumbed to the environment.” They add that Ambler was a contractor from Clean Harbors hired by Emerald to conduct testing and cleaning of rail tanker cars.

No other employees or firefighters were injured.

The incident is being investigated by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
