A Pennsylvania mother was arrested over the weekend after her 11-year-old son called 911 and said he was chained to a bunk bed in his home.
A police officer from Lebanon County Regional Police arrived at the scene where a boy was discovered handcuffed to a top bunk’s railing, PennLive.com reported. According to the information in the arrest affidavit concerning 33-year-old Chazzity Candelario, the boy explained that he had been initially handcuffed to a post in the basement but managed to free himself and then accidentally handcuffed himself to the bed.
Candelario informed the police that she struggles to manage her children while she is at work, so she would confine the boy to a small utility room measuring 3 feet by 8 feet or handcuff him to a fuel tank in the basement. The boy stated that he would sometimes be restrained to the fuel tank for up to two hours at a time.
The document did not say how often he was restrained in the home.
Candelario is facing charges of unlawful restraint of a minor, false imprisonment of a minor, and endangering the welfare of children. She is currently in custody on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled for a hearing on January 23.
