    Paul Abbate, who served as the FBI’s deputy director for a long period, was anticipated to take over as acting director following Christopher Wray’s departure. However, he has decided to retire from the bureau, as stated in an email he wrote to senior executives. The Associated Press obtained this email on Monday.

    It’s unclear who will run the FBI as confirmation proceedings are underway for President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for the director, Kash Patel.
