All the key moments and gaffes you did not see during Donald Trump's historic second inauguration: From a missed kiss and a missing bible to a very revealing front row outfit

Donald Trump assumed office as the 47th president of the United States yesterday amidst a day brimming with elaborate ceremonies as America ushers in the new MAGA era.

Trump’s historic second inauguration was a glamorous star-studded event filled, but the celebration didn’t take place without a few hiccups.

During the inauguration, the new president encountered a humorous moment when his attempt to kiss his wife, Melania Trump, landed on the brim of her stylish inauguration day hat.

The same hat caused some Melania a few problems of her own, with Trump joking that with the strong winds she was ‘elevated’ and nearly ‘blew away’.

The Inauguration Day festivities once again placed the First Family in the spotlight, with MAGA supporter Kai Trump looking stunning in a glamorous gown and Barron Trump receiving praise for his poised demeanor, notably for a respectful handshake he exchanged with departing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

But America’s tech bros, who were for the first time ever front and center at the presidential swearing in, have been met with criticism over their behaviors during the inauguration ceremony and celebrations.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg was blasted for seemingly staring down Lauren Sanchez’s revealing top, while Tesla founder Elon Musk was accused of giving a Nazi salute while addressing a crowd at a MAGA rally.

DailyMail.com takes a look at all the key moments and gaffes you did not see during Trump’s historic second inauguration.

Mark Zuckerberg was seemingly unable to tear his eyes away from Lauren Sanchez’s chest during Donald Trump’s second inauguration on Monday.

Eagle-eyed viewers took to social media to accuse the Meta CEO of repeatedly staring at the 55-year-old’s chest, as they sat in the Capitol Rotunda ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.

In a widely shared video on social media, Zuckerberg can be seen glancing down at Sanchez, who wore a bold outfit which consisted of white lace lingerie, to the service.

‘Eyes up Zuck,’ one post on X, formerly Twitter, cheekily read.

‘Mark Zuckerberg is ready to risk it all for Jeff Bezos’ fiancée at the inauguration,’ joked another.

‘Mark Zuckerberg (and some guy behind him) were caught staring at a woman’s breasts during the inauguration,’ slammed someone else.

Another had an interesting take on the glance down, writing ‘Maybe Mark Zuckerberg is human after all?’

The group of tech titans were then seen sitting together alongside Jeff Bezos, 61, and Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan for the inauguration ceremony.

Elon Musk has come under fire over a gesture he made Monday while addressing a crowd of MAGA fans during a celebration of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Biting his bottom lip, the Tesla billionaire thumped his right hand over his heart, fingers spread wide, then extended his right arm out, emphatically, at an upward angle, palm down and fingers together. Then he turned and made the same hand gesture to the crowd behind him.

The gestures were quickly scrutinized online, prompting critics to allege the gesture was an overt reference to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

Musk took to his social media platform X to defend himself, stating that his opponents needed ‘better dirty tricks’ and that ‘the ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired’.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization founded to combat anti-Semitism and has criticized Musk in the past, also rushed to his defense, saying it appears that ‘made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute’.

The ADL also noted that Trump’s inauguration was a ‘delicate moment’ and that ‘politics are inflamed’ but urged ‘all sides’ to offer each other ‘bit of grace’ and ‘perhaps even the benefit of the doubt’.

Donald Trump didn’t put his hand on the bible

President Donald Trump took his oath of office on Monday with his right hand raised, but without placing his left hand on the two Bibles that his wife Melania held as she stood by his side.

Melania held the President’s personal bible, a gift from his mother, and the the Bible the 16th President Abraham Lincoln was sworn in on 1861.

There is no legal requirement for a President to place his hand on a Bible when he takes the oath of office.

Article Two of the US Constitution does state an incoming president ‘shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.’

The apparent oversight has no practical impact on Trump’s inauguration, academics say, but it roused curiosity online.

Despite the inauguration pomp and a bracing speech, the top thing Americans searched for on Google in relation to Trump on Monday afternoon was about him not placing his hand on the Bible, which contains the holy scriptures of Christians and Jews.

What an incoming president swears on – whether it is a Bible, a historical document or nothing at all – is not relevant to them assuming power.

Carrie Underwood’s performance hit by shock technical glitch

Carrie Underwood was hit by shock technical difficulties on Monday before she took to the stage to sing America The Beautiful after the performance was moved indoors at the US Capitol due to frigid outdoor temperatures.

The drama unfolded when Underwood’s performance was announced, with the glamorous star walking in, joining outgoing President Joe Biden as she prepared to sing ahead of Trump being sworn in.

Both Underwood, 41, and President Donald Trump appeared to grimace as the track failed to play, leaving an unsettling silence over the crowd and a baffled Underwood clutching onto her microphone.

Finally, the first strains of the song broke out, before abruptly stopping after just a few seconds – with Underwood pulling a face as both Trump and Biden looked on with bemusement.

As a result of the technical difficulties, the country songstress decided to perform A capella, pleading with the crowd before singing the song: ‘If you know the words, help me out here.’

Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump had an affectionate moment as he entered his inauguration ceremony, but his kiss appeared to be interrupted by the First Lady’s large inauguration day hat.

As Trump arrived inside the Capitol Rotunda he greeted the First Lady and went to plant a kiss on her cheek, but he was blocked by the rim of the hat – causing the gesture to turn into an air kiss.

Melania, 54, paired the chic hat with a powder-blue, pale suit dress – a custom design by Ralph Lauren – that drew immediate comparisons to Jackie Kennedy.

Her hair, swept up loosely into a decidedly 1960s chignon, framed a smiling face as she evoked, through fashion, a golden age of political idealism.

This time round, things were decidedly more nuanced. Opting for a more somber note, Melania cloaked herself in a custom navy silk wool coat dress – coordinating pencil skirt and ivory silk crepe blouse – all of which, to the surprise of many fashion watchers, had been hand sewn in New York City by the niche, but far from cut-price, American designer Adam Lippes.

Not since Hillary Clinton, in 1993, has a First Lady opted for an inauguration-day hat, adding not only a touch of the theatrical to Melania’s ensemble but almost entirely obscuring her eyes.

For a woman known for her love of sunglasses, perhaps this was the next-best choice on a day when the entire world would be watching her.

President Donald Trump teased First Lady Melania Trump as he delivered remarks to lawmakers and their spouses at the Capitol Visitor Center after his official swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

He joked that Melania, who was still sporting her inauguration day hat, joked that the chic accessory and Monday’s high-speed winds did not pair well.

‘The wind was blowing like crazy. And with the hat she was wearing. She almost blew away,’ Trump said to laughs as Melania interjected.

‘She was being elevated off the ground. She almost blew away,’ he continued.

Melania Trump’s feet (aching) in $800 heels

President Donald Trump hilariously exposed Melania’s discomfort to the world during his speech just after he got sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

While addressing the crowd, the new President praised his wife-of-nearly-20-years for ‘being incredible’ throughout his big day day, despite the fact that her feet were ‘absolutely aching.’

He added that she was going to give him ‘hell’ for sharing her feet problems to the entire nation.

‘I have a first lady who has been incredible,’ gushed Donald. ‘I shouldn’t say this. I’m going to get hell when I say this, but her feet are absolutely aching. You know, those heels.’

On her feet, Melania, 54, wore a pair of $825 navy blue Manolo Blahnik BB suede pumps at the event. The shoes came with a four-inch heel, leather upper, lining and sole, and a pointed toe.

Trump then applauded his wife for being a ‘beautiful and great first lady.’

Melania stayed off the campaign trail during the 2024 race but has been at his side consistently since he won re-election in November and as they move back into the White House.

Hillary Clinton laughing at Trump saying he’ll change Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, appeared to chuckle as Donald Trump delivered his inauguration address.

During his inaugural address, the president vowed to sign approximately 200 executive orders in a massive crackdown on Day One of his second term.

One of his more interesting proposals is to rename or restore previous titles to landmarks and bodies of water bordering the US, including the new ‘Gulf of America.’

‘Today, I will sign a series of historic executive orders,’ Trump said. ‘With these actions, we will begin the complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense – it’s all about common sense.

‘America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world.

‘A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.’

His remarks prompted laughter from his one-time political rival, Hillary Clinton, and a grin from her former president husband.

Many people on social media agree the name change is funny and said they laughed too.

President Donald Trump was spotted enjoying his favorite drink at the inauguration luncheon on Monday.

A server delivered a glass and can of Diet Coke to the President as he sat at the head table, alongside his wife First Lady Melania Trump.

The staff member pulled the tab back and poured the beverage into the glass, as trump continued conversing with the other guests.

He then looked at the waitress and spoke, likely thanking her for the delivery.

Trump is a known lover of Diet Coke and during his first term in the Oval Office had a button on the desk that he would press to summon a glass of his favorite drink on a silver tray.

He wouldn’t confirm reports that the famed ‘Diet Coke button’ has now returned to the presidential office.

Fetterman shows up to Trump’s inauguration in gym shorts

Senator John Fetterman arrived at Capitol Hill for President Donald Trump’s inauguration in a very daring outfit – opting for shorts despite the freezing cold weather.

While other guests donned their best looks to watch the swearing in of the 47th President of America, the Pennsylvania senator wore a black Carhartt hoodie, gray gym shorts and ON sneakers despite the formality of the event.

Fetterman, 54, was photographed sitting front row at the ceremony, with his legs spread in front of him.

Trump’s swearing-in was moved inside the Capitol rotunda due to the below-freezing weather and cold winds in Washington DC, with much of the ground frozen and icy from Sunday’s rain and snow fall.

However, the arctic blast doesn’t appear to bother Fetterman, who stuck with his usual casual attire.

Social media users were agog at the Senator’s decision, taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their disbelief over the chilly decision.

‘John Fetterman wearing shorts to the inauguration after Trump wussed out because of the cold is a boss move,’ declared one user.

‘THIS GUY IS ABSOLUTELY NUTS,’ laughed another.

‘John Fetterman is a f**king disgrace. The end,’ declared one disgruntled social media user.

JD Vance’s daughter’s cartoon band-aids

Vice President JD Vance’s two-year-old daughter Mirabel has captured the hearts of America with her cute inauguration day fashion statement.

The toddler, who was sat in her mother Usha Vance’s arms during her father’s swearing in, was outfitted in a darling red jacket.

However, social media has erupted over the bandages on her fingers – which featured cartoon characters Scooby-Doo and Bluey.

‘Mirabel’s bandaids are THE fashion statement of the inauguration,’ one fan wrote.

Another joked: ‘I imagine a Navy attache guy at the VP Residence opening an intricately carved wooden box filled w a vast selection of character Band-Aids, from Paw Patrol to Barbie Nutcracker, lined up like teas, to offer them to young Maribel. “Thank you, sir, I’ll take Moana and Peppa today.”‘

‘True Gentleman’ Barron Trump shakes hands with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

Barron Trump was hailed ‘a true gentleman’ for shaking hands with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris at his father’s inauguration.

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States inside the Capitol Rotunda on Monday morning.

The president’s 18-year-old son gave the outgoing president and vice present firm handshakes after the swearing-in ceremony.

The gesture of peace has led fans to praise the New York University freshman as ‘a gentleman’ and ‘raised well.’

‘[Melania] brought up a true gentleman wow I’ve never seen a classier 18 year old,’ one person said.

‘Smart young man. Knows his way around the room,’ a second person said. ‘He is very impressive & clearly, raised well,’ a third said.

Tech bros are front and center for the first time at an inauguration

Donald Trump was surrounded by tech titans and media moguls as he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple CEO Tim Cook were all present inside St. John’s church in the capital and the Capitol Rotunda.

The three were spotted chatting amongst themselves as they attended the morning service with Trump to kick off his inauguration.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai was also spotted sitting behind the three, with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew also pictured after the service.

The group of tech titans were then seen sitting together alongside Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez and Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan for the inauguration ceremony.

Other guests seen inside the Church of the Presidents and the rotunda included the likes of podcaster Joe Rogan and former Fox News’ media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

The President of FIFA Gianni Infantino was among the congregation as well as Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat.

Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson was also seated near Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez for the morning church service.

Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is Trump’s presumptive nominee for Secretary of Health and defense pick Pete Hegseth were also spotted.

Eric and Barron Trump’s brotherly selfie

Donald Trump’s sons Eric Trump and Barron Trump posed for a selfie inside the U.S. Capitol Building – where the inauguration ceremony was moved to due to frigid outdoor temperatures.

Eric, 41, appeared to snap the photo with his front-facing phone camera while six-foot-nine Barron, 18, towered behind his older brother.

The second eldest Trump brother then posted the selfie to his 2.8 million Instagram followers.

Kai Trump stuns in sparkling Sheri Hill gowns

President Trump’s 17-year-old granddaughter, Kai Trump, took to Instagram to share her dazzling look for the inaugural ball on Monday evening.

In photos and videos posted to her account, Trump’s eldest grandchild sparkled in an off-white beaded gown with a corset bodice and thigh-high slit designed by Sherri Hill.

‘Inaugural ball dance ready @sherrihill,’ she captioned a video of herself showing off the dress.

Earlier in the day, the teen vlogger gave her YouTube subscribers an exciting behind-the-scenes glimpse of events leading up to Trump’s inauguration.

In the vlog, Kai revealed that she had been given a number of Sherri Hill dresses for the busy weekend.

‘This is Sherri Hill,’ she said, showing off the gowns, which came in red, navy, and gold. ‘She sent me some dresses and they’re amazing. All my ball gowns are Sherri Hill.’

Kai explained that although she has never worn Sherri Hill before, she felt like the dresses ‘looked really good on her.’

‘She’s a really good designer,’ she added. ‘I’ve heard of her before. Thank you so much for sending these Sherri, I appreciate it. They look so amazing.’

Barack Obama walks into inauguration on his own

Former President Barack Obama, attended Donald Trump’s inauguration alone – amid rumors that he and former First Lady Michelle Obama may be getting a divorce.

The 44th President of the United States donned a black suit and striped tie, and he smiled and waved at reporters when he walked into the Capitol.

He entered the Rotunda on his own – where Trump’s inauguration was moved due to bitterly cold weather and snow flurries – and sat next to former President George W. Bush and wife Laura.

Obama did not attend pre-inauguration prayer services at St. John’s Episcopal Church and is not set to attend Trump’s Inaugural Luncheon.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama shared an Instagram post honoring the MLK Jr. on the national holiday marking his birthday – without acknowledging Inauguration Day.

‘Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service always inspires me. This #MLKDay, I hope you’ll join me and @WhenWeAllVote in honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy by getting involved in your community,’ she said.

‘Whether you’re mentoring students at your local school or volunteering for a cause that matters to you, it all helps make a difference. Tell me how you’re giving back today in the comments.’

Pastor Lorenzo Sewell goes viral for larger-than-life prayer

A preacher who helped deliver the benediction at President Trump’s inauguration has gone viral after giving an explosive performance.

Lorenzo Sewell, senior pastor of the 180 church in Detroit, Michigan, made remarks during the ceremony on Monday morning.

In his three-minute prayer, Sewell was incredibly patriotic and pro-Trump, as he thanked God for saving the 78-year-old from an assassination attempt last year.

He also appeared to make multiple references to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous ‘I have a dream’ speech, who’s national holiday coincided with the inauguration.

Sewell started: ‘Heavenly father we are so grateful that you gave our 45th and now our 47th president a millimeter miracle.

‘We are grateful that you are the one that have called him for such a time as this. That America would begin to dream again.’

Sewell prayed that America continues to be a nation ‘where we will not be judged by the color of our skin but by the content of our character’.

He spoke loudly throughout his prayer and lifted his hands to the sky as he called for ‘freedom to ring ‘throughout America in a direct copy from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Lara Trump chides husband Eric Trump over unusual hand gesture

Eric Trump has caught the attention of conspiracy theorists after they spotted him making a specific hand gesture during his father’s inauguration.

Eric, 41, placed his hands in an upside-down triangle-like formation which eagle-eyed viewers claim looks similar to the symbol for the Freemasons or the mysterious ‘Illuminati’.

They also highlighted how Eric’s wife Lara Trump appeared to mutter something to him before he abruptly changed his stance.

The incident in question occurred as the couple were lining up alongside President Donald Trump’s other children inside the Capitol Rotunda where the ceremony was held on Monday.

Eric was taking his place on the right hand side of the podium where his father was sworn in when he made the gesture.

His wife then tapped him on the arm to get him to shuffle over and said something inaudible which caused him to drop his hands.

Donald Trump brags about saving ‘$1trillion’ with flick of his wrist

President Trump bragged about saving the United States $1 trillion by signing an executive order withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord – then celebrated by tossing his used pens into a crowd of adoring fans.

The 47th President began signing executive orders in front of cheering crowds at the Inaugural Parade on Monday afternoon, noting: ‘Imagine Biden doing this… I don’t think so.’

After riling the crowd up with an emphatic speech, Trump took a seat and began working his way through a stack of executive orders as they were announced one at a time.

When the time came to sign an order withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, Trump whispered off camera: ‘It’ll save them a trillion dollars.’

Moments later he repeated those words. ‘A trillion,’ he said. ‘It’ll save a trillion.’

Trump was directing one of his staff to pass on his message to the fawning crowd.

‘Yes sir,’ he said.

‘We’re going to save over a trillion dollars by withdrawing from that treaty,’ he told the crowd as President Trump handed him the signed document.

The crowd erupted in cheers at the revelation, prompting Trump to later throw his pens into the packed stands after he’d finished signing his documents.
