Avon Lake man charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing wife: What police are saying

The 78-year-old suspect has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault.

An elderly man, aged 78, has been apprehended by the Avon Lake Police Department after he phoned 911 to inform them that he had stabbed his wife at their residence on Wedgewood Drive.

The incident happened on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at approximately 8:54 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers reportedly found the man in the garage, where he was taken into custody. 

Avon Lake police say that inside the home, officers found the victim — a 70-year-old woman — sitting in a recliner with wounds to her neck, chest and hands.

According to police, paramedics provided first aid before transporting her to St. John Medical Center, where she is in stable condition. 

The suspect, who has not been identified, has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault. He is being held at the Lorain County Jail.
